Throughout the twelve years I have spent in my profession as a personal trainer, I have been asked many times about celebrity weight loss transformations.

Today I am taking a look at the weight loss transformation of Shon Seung-wan also known as Wendy from South Korean girl group Red Velvet.

Wendy was born on February 21, 1994, in a place called Seongbuk-dong, which is a part of Seongbuk District in Seoul, South Korea.

Wendy and her sister moved to the United States and then to Canada when they were 12 years old. In North America, Wendy went by the name Wendy Son and learned English, French, and Spanish alongside her native Korean.

She auditioned for the “SM Global Audition” in Canada in 2012 and was recognised for her musical talents, versatility with instruments, and strong singing skills.

Wendy started training for her singing career less than two years before she was introduced on March 14, 2014, as part of SM Entertainment’s trainee team, SM Rookies.

She recorded a song called “Because I Love You” for the soundtrack of the Mnet drama “Mimi” while she was with SM Rookies. Her labelmate Changmin was also part of the show and appeared in the music video.

On SM Entertainment’s official YouTube channel, there’s a video of Wendy singing a version of Taylor Swift’s song “Speak Now.”

Wendy is not only a singer but also does voice acting.

Wendy shared that in extreme circumstances, she consumed a blend of black beans, milk, cabbage, and an apple for breakfast, followed by 10,000 jump ropes.

For lunch and dinner, she only drank pumpkin juice.

I must emphasise the importance of consulting with a dietitian before attempting to adopt such a restrictive diet plan, as not all diets are suitable for everyone, and moderation is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

In my profession as a personal trainer over the past twelve years, most of my clients have achieved phenomenal transformations through a slight calorie deficit as opposed to any extreme diets or drastic weight loss measures.

This way, you are still able to eat foods you enjoy, but moderation is key.

Wendy’s Workout Routine

As a KPOP idol, Wendy incorporates intense workouts into her routine, such as 10,000 jump rope repetitions.

While this may be challenging for beginners, there are alternative methods to achieve similar results without such intense workouts.

For example, yoga offers numerous benefits, including weight loss, increased flexibility, stress reduction, improved circulation, and mental clarity.

Different types of yoga, such as Hatha, Ashtanga, Kundalini, and Vinyasa, cater to various preferences and goals, making it accessible to individuals of all fitness levels.

Ultimately, the choice of exercise depends on personal preferences and long-term goals, emphasising the importance of finding a balanced approach to fitness and wellness.
